Nationality and education checks

  • The applicant and both parents must be foreign nationals, with foreign nationality acquired before the applicant began the high-school-equivalent curriculum. Nationality is assessed at the application deadline. Dual nationals holding Korean nationality are ineligible.
  • Homeschooling, online schooling, adult education and domestic or overseas qualification examinations such as GED are not accepted. Check country-specific school systems and expected graduation rules on guide page 7.

First-year admission

  • Complete the full equivalent of Korean primary and secondary education and graduate from high school, or expect to graduate in February 2027.
  • Track I, excluding 29 departments with separate rules: an accepted route is TOPIK/TOPIK iBT level 3+, level 3+ at a Korean university-affiliated language institution in Korea, English scores (TOEFL iBT 59 / IELTS 5.5 / CEFR B2 / NEW TEPS 202 or above), KIIP level 3 completion or pre-test score 61+, or an overseas Sejong Institute Intermediate 1+ certificate. Online Sejong certificates are excluded.
  • The 29 departments use the specific table on page 8. Examples: Computer Science requires TOPIK 4+; Media and Communication requires 5+. Some, including Design, specify a different type of qualification. TOPIK 3 or English scores are not a universal admission route.
  • Track II, Global Open Major Division: TOPIK/TOPIK iBT 3+ or completion of KNU’s Korean language program level 3+. Do not apply Track I alternatives such as English, KIIP or other universities’ language programs.
  • Language-course completion and English scores are normally due by the application deadline. KNU language-program students have a completion exception through 2026-11-13. See pages 8–9 for the exact scope.

Third-year transfer · Track I only

  • Check both the academic route (graduation from a 2- or 3-year junior college, or at least 2 years / 4 semesters at a 4-year university) and the 65-credit minimum from the previous institution. Only the same or a related major is eligible.
  • TOPIK/TOPIK iBT 4+ for other departments; 5+ for Media and Communication. First-year alternatives such as English scores or language-course certificates do not apply to transfers.
  • Two years completed at a 3-year institution is insufficient. Applicants from institutions without a credit system, and KNU students enrolled or on leave at the opening date, are ineligible for transfer. KNU assesses major equivalence and department availability.
Documents · common / transfer / conditional
Common
Online application, KNU personal statement and study-plan form, high-school graduation/expected-graduation certificate and all-year transcripts, language evidence for the selected route, passport copy, and parents’ nationality and family-relationship evidence.
Transfer additions
University enrollment/completion/graduation or expected-graduation certificate, plus full university transcripts showing credits by course and percentage grades.
When applicable
Permitted TOPIK test registration slip; Korean language-program enrollment/completion and transcript; both sides of the Korean residence card; preliminary acceptance certificate; Korean high-school record. Match items ①–⑭ on page 11 to your circumstances.
Format and authentication
Documents outside Korean or English need notarized translations. Upload one PDF per document category. Follow pages 11–12 for apostille/consular authentication, Chinese academic verification and country-specific family records. Check the Spring rule accepting language scores issued from 2024-10-12.
After interview and originals
Interview-qualified and preliminary-admission applicants submit financial evidence separately. Page 12 controls amount, account holder, issue date and country-specific conditions. Required academic, transcript, family and financial originals go to KNU; a consultation-site upload does not replace them.
Separate follow-up deadlines · all Korea time
  • · Financial evidence deadline; check eligibility, amount and submission method on page 12.
  • · Additional TOPIK scores only for applicants who uploaded the PBT 108 or iBT 15/16 registration slip during applications, where their department permits this. This does not extend the application period.
  • · Required originals must arrive by this date. Missing documents can cancel admission. Submit early if visa preparation requires it.

Registration slips are not accepted for first-year Media and Communication, Business Administration, Economics and Trade, or Mechanical Engineering; for transfer, Media and Communication, Economics and Trade, or Mechanical Engineering. Required scores must be submitted by the October 30 application deadline. Pages 8–9 govern department-specific rules.

Official application route

  1. Open KNU OIA → Degree Program → International admissions → Undergraduate admissions guide. Select the correct semester, route and department.
  2. Follow its online-application link to Uway, complete the form, upload separate PDFs and pay the application fee.
  3. Check and keep the five-digit Uway applicant number. It is separate from a Global C&B consultation reference.

Meeting eligibility does not confirm admission or a scholarship. Scholarship eligibility and amounts depend on KNU’s rules and assessment for the intake. Admission, scholarships and visas are not guaranteed.
